Septic Tank Risers

riserA septic tank riser is a connection between the septic tank and the surface of your yard. Septic tanks are usually buried a few feet underground for health and safety reasons. Tucking them underground also prevents the spread of septic odors.

Having a septic riser installed allows easy access without having to manually excavate your tank for:

  • Pumping
  • Maintenance
  • Inspection

 Benefits of Septic Tank Risers

  • Safe, easy access to septic tank
  • Eliminate time-consuming digging and unsightly patches during grass regrowth
  • Cost-effective reduction of time required for tank servicing
  • Reduce or eliminate the need to relocate tank for every service call

Sanitary T-Baffles

baffleSanitary T-baffles help separate large solids and floating tank scum in septic tanks and grease traps. The primary side of your tank already has one called the “inlet T-baffle,” and there is another one, the “outlet T-baffle,” on the secondary side of your tank. Both sanitary tees are designed the same, but each has a slightly different function.

The inlet T-baffle helps reduce agitation as waste enters the tank to avoid clogging. Without the Inlet T-baffle, the flow of incoming sewage would pour on top of the scum layer. This would harden to a film, disallowing new solids to settle and instead allowing them to build up on top of the tank. Before long, this would block incoming flow and cause it to back up into the main line.

Instead, the inlet T-baffle redirects the flow to enter the middle section of the tank, where waste is free to naturally separate. Heavy solids settle to the tank bottom, and light scum floats to the surface. The inlet baffle also reduces the movement of gases from the tank back through the pipelines into the building that it serves. If this happens, it can cause unpleasant odors and if left unchecked, can actually cause illness and dangerous conditions.

The outlet T-baffle blocks floating scum and debris from flowing out of the tank into the outlet line, where it would rapidly clog a septic system’s drain field. Buildup in the leach lines or drywells is detrimental to the life of any septic system, since it causes early failures and costly repairs. Businesses such as restaurants that are responsible for maintaining a grease trap have another strong motivation to keep their grease trap clean. If not maintained grease will flow through the T-baffle into the pipeline causing back ups and contamination into clean waterways such as rivers.

Mandated public health inspections are a fact of life in the hospitality field, and if an inspector finds that disallowed pollutants are entering our clean waterways through your poorly maintained grease trap, you could be hit with a code violation citation and its attendant costly fine.

APS Environmental, Inc. has designed preventative maintenance plans to protect your investment and our environment. If we find any part of your system isn’t operating as designed, we can repair or replace it, with parts such as these baffles. Call or email us for the details.

Pink Block

Bio Forece Pink Block

Bio force pink clock is a bacterial grease-digesting additive for lift stations and grease traps.

• Controls grease, sludge, fats and oils to prevent build-ups

• Withstands high temperatures with no loss of effectiveness

• Keeps lift station and grease trap areas odor-free.

• Dissolves slowly, providing continuous treatment over a 30-90 day period, depending on tank size and flow volume

Lift Stations

liftWhat equipment is used in this process?

Depends on how big the lift station is. Deeper ones need Vac-Con.

A lift station is a tank (wet well) that waste-water enters, to be lifted to a higher elevation. Lift stations range in size, typically equipped with one or more pumps, a control panel and alarm system. These pumps are used when gravity cannot naturally direct the flow.

Lift stations can have a submersible pump designed to function inside the tank, or an external pump designed to operate outside of the tank. They have sensors (floats) that trigger a pump to turn on or off when the water reaches a certain level.

An alarm will sound to notify operators of a problem. The water level could be too high or too low. There could be a brief, internal failure or simply debris obstructing the sensors from working properly. This is usually what alerts our customers to the need for cleaning and/or maintenance. That’s when they call APS Environmental.

Frequency of service will vary with lift station usage and design. We work with each clients’ specific needs to determine the level of service needed to ensure their system functions properly.

The profound depth of some lift stations can exceed the maximum cubic feet per minute (CFM) range of most vacuum trucks, preventing them from pulling up heavy debris. Our trucks are fully capable of handling 5,000 CFM, while we perform multiple other tasks simultaneously. If necessary, our confined space certified technicians can enter the tank safely to pressure-wash the walls and hydro jet the pipelines.

We also carry Bioforce Pink Block, an additive product that helps break down built-up grease after our service is complete. This can prevent future blockages requiring further lift station cleaning.

If you’ve heard an unwelcome alarm or simply noticed sluggish performance in your lift station, call or email us today. We’ll help determine the most effective maintenance schedule to return your asset to optimal function now, and prevent recurring problems in the future.

CCTV Pipe Inspection

With so much of water conveyance systems located underground, it’s often difficult or impossible to access lift stations, older manholes, long or small-diameter pipes and other parts of their infrastructure to visually inspect these system elements. When that happens, we use remote cameras, either mounted on handheld push rods, or carried along on a remote-controlled, wheeled tractor or other carrier, into the pipe or other asset where a human can’t go.

This service provides a method of making a complete visual inspection and evaluation of

  • Storm water systems
  • Sanitary sewer systems
  • Related pipelines

to determine conditions inside the pipe.

Our equipment runs up to 2500 feet into the asset. Features include

  • High-definition video/text monitoring coordinated with a digital footage counter
  • DVD burner to record, share and archive the inspection for future reference

This video inspection is a valuable and cost effective tool to diagnose

  • Roots intrusion
  • Broken pipes
  • Clogs

or to map infrastructure layout. This helps us understand where your system assets are located, and how best to access them for cleaning, repair or replacement.

Benefits of using this tool include the ability to:

  • quickly and accurately diagnose current problems
  • discover and anticipate future problems
  • identify specific location of a known problem
  • save time, disruption and expense doing the above, instead of having to dig to inspect

Sewer Cleaning and Jetting

APS Environmental, Inc. is equipped with efficient and environmentally safe high-pressure water jetting rigs, used to scour and remove buildup of

  • Grease
  • Sludge
  • Sand
  • Dirt
  • Gravel
  • Roots
  • Scale
  • Rust
  • Other debris

from all types of drain lines and surfaces. Businesses and organizations in any category – commercial, industrial, municipal, institutional – and even residential property owners and managers can find themselves in need of professional jetter cleaning.

The process is safe to use on

  • Interior and exterior surfaces
  • Process equipment
  • Heat exchangers
  • Floor gates
  • Deck plates
  • Floor surfaces
  • Any type of piping

When used as a part of your regular maintenance program, this service can assist in keeping your waste and storm water conveyance systems and equipment functioning properly with less down time. By preventing premature wear on parts, it can extend the life of your systems elements, and help prevent the need for emergency calls. Removal of heavy substance buildup returns your water pipes to their designed volume capacity, increasing efficiency and productivity.

We specialize in pipeline cleaning using Hydro Jet systems operating at 4,000 psi on pipes up to 42 inches in diameter. These high-pressure blasts of water can break through the toughest blockages, and remove years of built-up debris. Jetters can get the job done faster than a mechanical flail or foaming agents, returning your system to optimal operation quickly and with less down time.
