CCTV Pipe Inspection

With so much of water conveyance systems located underground, it’s often difficult or impossible to access lift stations, older manholes, long or small-diameter pipes and other parts of their infrastructure to visually inspect these system elements. When that happens, we use remote cameras, either mounted on handheld push rods, or carried along on a remote-controlled, wheeled tractor or other carrier, into the pipe or other asset where a human can’t go.

This service provides a method of making a complete visual inspection and evaluation of

  • Storm water systems
  • Sanitary sewer systems
  • Related pipelines

to determine conditions inside the pipe.

Our equipment runs up to 2500 feet into the asset. Features include

  • High-definition video/text monitoring coordinated with a digital footage counter
  • DVD burner to record, share and archive the inspection for future reference

This video inspection is a valuable and cost effective tool to diagnose

  • Roots intrusion
  • Broken pipes
  • Clogs

or to map infrastructure layout. This helps us understand where your system assets are located, and how best to access them for cleaning, repair or replacement.

Benefits of using this tool include the ability to:

  • quickly and accurately diagnose current problems
  • discover and anticipate future problems
  • identify specific location of a known problem
  • save time, disruption and expense doing the above, instead of having to dig to inspect

Septic System Services

The staff at APS Environmental has many years of combined experience servicing commercial and residential septic systems. We understand that most people don’t really understand what their system does and how it works. That means they’re less likely to be aware if it begins to malfunction, when the problem could be more readily diagnosed and fixed. After a certain period of improper operation, a septic system will ultimately fail completely, and at that point, the owner is in for a huge replacement bill.

We like to be proactive in helping people understand the importance of maintaining the health of their septic system. So, with each service, we like to share our knowledge by informing customers about how their system works and how to prevent problems down the road.

If you already know your system needs routine maintenance or even some minor repairs, give us a call or send an email to schedule an APS visit. Our septic system service includes:

Septic System Design

How a septic system works

A septic system is designed as a draining system for the water used in your household. As the used water, food particles, grease, and toiletry from your house flows through the mainline it is captured in the primary side of the septic tank. As the debris flows into the tank it is separated utilizing a sanitary T-baffle. The heavy solids sink to the bottom of the tank. The lighter scum floats to the top of the tank while the clear water flows into the secondary side of the tank. The secondary tank helps capture the debris that has escaped the primary chamber. The water then flows through another sanitary T-baffle, through the outlet line and dispersed at the distribution box into the leach field.

Maintaining your septic

As with your family car, your septic system needs regular maintenance to function properly. There are many steps you can take to prevent septic failure.

  • The septic tank should be pumped at least every 3-5 years
  • Use live bacteria additives to help break down solids and prevent odor

Leach Field Rejuvenation

Drain fields serve as a natural waste disposal system for homes not hooked up to city sanitary sewer systems. If your home or business is on a septic system, then you have a drain field. There are two types of drain fields:

  • Drywell – built in a vertical direction
  • Leach field – built horizontally

Each drain field is built with a bed of stone or gravel. Perforated pipe is laid atop this bed, then covered with soil. The water from your home flows through the septic system into a distribution box, which distributes the water into the drain field.

If the septic system has not been maintained properly over time, solids will eventually get pushed into the leach lines. There, they collect until they clog, causing the system to back up. This can permanently damage the drain field, in which case we recommend replacement.

Sometimes, however, a leach field can qualify for rejuvenation instead of replacement — a less costly approach when your system has failed. APS Environmental offers this service to our customers with septic systems. Here’s how it works:

  • A leach field test is part of your 10-point inspection during an APS Environmental septic cleaning.
  • Our technicians use high-pressure jetting to break down any heavy debris.
  • Then they add a powerful oxidizing agent to dissolve the buildup.

This simple process extends the life of your current septic system, it also helps you avoid a more costly leach field replacement.

Pipeline Video Inspection

This service is performed by inserting a special camera into a pipeline when human inspection is not possible due to hazardous conditions or inaccessibility. It provides a complete evaluation of storm systems, sewer systems or related pipelines to determine the condition of the inside of the pipe. Our equipment runs 250 feet and features include high-tech video/text monitoring along with a digital footage counter and DVD burner. It is a valuable tool and a cost effective way to diagnose roots intrusion, a broken pipe, a clog, or map infrastructure lay out.

Grease Trap Services

greaseGrease traps are mechanical elements of a building’s sanitary sewer system, designed to capture heavy grease and oils from the wastewater stream that flows from the establishment. They prevent these substances from entering and ultimately clogging the municipal collection system. Restaurants, hotels and other food service companies will have and need to maintain at least one grease trap in their systems.

Most commercial kitchens have grease traps that vary in size from 500-10,000 gallon capacity and are located underground, outside the kitchen. Smaller grease traps, usually 25-100 gallons in size, are located inside the kitchen. They’re commonly located under the kitchen sink or in the floor, with an access cover.

Inside a grease trap, grease within the water flow is captured and as it cools, it separates from the water. Smaller grease particles float to the top of the tank, while heavier solids sink to the bottom. Sanitary T-baffles installed near the trap help this process.

As you might imagine, grease builds up over time and regular maintenance of the trap is required for the system to function properly. If grease trap maintenance is neglected, the grease can solidify in the lines. This will ultimately back up the system, causing grease to overflow the top of the tank and run directly into the sewer line. Results?

  • The establishment’s staff and customers will experience a foul odor.
  • The business will incur costly emergency service calls to clean up the mess, inspect the system for further clogs and repair any damage.
  • The business experiences costly downtime while this is all happening.
  • The management may possibly be fined by a city or county inspector.

Car Wash

APS Environmental, Inc. services a wide range of car washes in the Northern California and Nevada regions. We specialize in servicing complete underground water collection systems such as

  • Sand/oil separators
  • Clarifiers
  • Troughs
  • Catch basins
  • Reclamation systems
  • And much more

With newly implemented environmental regulations concerning runoff and more being considered all the time, it’s imperative that you take proper measures toward the maintenance of your car wash.

Sand/oil separators are designed to prevent mud, sand, oil, and debris from flowing into the storm sewer, polluting our clean waterways. Lack of proper, timely maintenance allows debris to build up in the tank and lines. This creates a backup, causing costly downtime losses and – worse yet – overflow that will get you cited for environmental infractions.

Foreign matter in water reclamation systems can produce a foul odor if not pumped out periodically. Because these systems are underground, the “out of sight, out of mind” mentality often takes over. But in the long run, not pumping can really cost you.

Most counties perform annual inspections to ensure proper measures are taken to comply with regulations. You may know when inspectors will arrive, but what if they show up unannounced, and that telltale odor is wafting up from your reclamation tank?

APS Environmental, Inc. partners with our clients to help keep you compliant by

  • Proactively keeping you informed about the latest regulatory changes
  • Providing thorough cleaning with a record of work performed
  • Working with you to plan preventive maintenance schedules that make sense for your individual business

Our experienced professionals will help design a plan that best fits your needs, from CCTV video inspections, pumping and pressure-washing, to hydro-jetting and minor repairs. We’ll even clean your onsite stormwater collection systems while we’re there.

We offer

  • Multiple-site discounts to save you money
  • Preventive maintenance to minimize emergency calls
  • After-hours service to prevent having to take systems offline during production
  • Load manifest verification to ensure regulatory compliance and avoid citations
  • Free estimates to help you stay on budget, on time and risk-free
