A lift station is a tank (wet well) that waste-water enters, to be lifted to a higher elevation. Lift stations range in size, typically equipped with one or more pumps, a control panel and alarm system. These pumps are used when gravity cannot naturally direct the flow.

Lift stations can have a submersible pump designed to function inside the tank, or an external pump designed to operate outside of the tank. They have sensors (floats) that trigger a pump to turn on or off when the water reaches a certain level.

An alarm will sound to notify operators of a problem. The water level could be too high or too low. There could be a brief, internal failure or simply debris obstructing the sensors from working properly. This is usually what alerts our customers to the need for cleaning and/or maintenance. That’s when they call APS Environmental.

Frequency of service will vary with lift station usage and design. We work with each clients’ specific needs to determine the level of service needed to ensure their system functions properly.

The profound depth of some lift stations can exceed the maximum cubic feet per minute (CFM) range of most vacuum trucks, preventing them from pulling up heavy debris. Our trucks are fully capable of handling 5,000 CFM, while we perform multiple other tasks simultaneously. If necessary, our confined space certified technicians can enter the tank safely to pressure-wash the walls and hydro jet the pipelines.

We also carry Bioforce Pink Block, an additive product that helps break down built-up grease after our service is complete. This can prevent future blockages requiring further lift station cleaning.
